This file contains important information about installing Best Math Program Ever. Information about improving the performance of this CD-ROM can be found at the end of this document.
Installation on a Mac computer.
Insert the Best Math Program Ever CD into your CD-ROM drive. The disc icon will appear on your desktop. Double Click on the icon and a window will open. In the window you will see the following icons: Install Me, ReadMe, and a folder containing, Sound (the Sound control panel), and Sound Manager 3.1. It may be necessary to install updated versions of the Sound control panel and Sound Manager. See instructions below on how to do this.
Double click on the Install Me icon to begin the installation. Follow the installer instructions. When the installation is complete, there will be a Best Math Program Ever folder installed on your hard drive. After the installation, the game will start automatically.
After The Best Math Program Ever has been successfully installed, it can be played any time the CD is in the CD-ROM drive by double clicking on the Best Math Program Ever icon in the Best Math Program Ever folder on your hard drive. For an easy path to the game, create an alias on your desktop. An alias is a short cut to the Best Math Program Ever icon. Please refer to the note below on Creating an Alias.

Installing System Extensions.
System extensions are software modules which add functionality to the basic Macintosh System. To install a new extension, simply drag the icon of the extension to the System Folder icon on your hard disk, and restart your computer. New extensions will not be active until you restart the machine.
If an extension already exists and you wish to replace it with a newer version, you must first remove the old extension. You will not be allowed to overwrite an extension which is in use. To remove the old one, open the Extensions folder (located in the System Folder on your hard disk) and drag the icon of the old extension to the Trash. Then, you can drag the new icon to the System Folder and restart. Note that you will not be able to empty the Trash until you have restarted as the old extension is still active.
Installing Sound Manager 3.1 and Sound Control Panel 8.05
If you have an outdated Sound Manager in your system, you may hear ╙pops╙ during audio playback. If so, install the new Sound Manager and Sound control panel by dragging them to the System Folder icon on your hard disk and then restarting your computer.
If you are unfamiliar with the installation of system extensions, please refer to the notes below on Installing System Extensions.
System 7.5.1 users may already have Sound Manager 3.1 and the updated Sound control panel installed.
To verify which version of Sound Manager you have:
1. Open your "System Folder" and locate the "Extensions" folder inside.
2. Open the "Extensions" folder and look for the Sound Manager icon inside.
If it is there, select it by clicking on it once and then select "Get Info" from the File menu to view its version number. It should be version 3.1.
If the version is less than 3.1, install the new Sound Manager from the CD-ROM by dragging it to the System Folder icon on your hard disk.
To check your Sound Control Panel:
1. Open your "System Folder" and locate the "Control Panels" folder inside.
2. Open the "Control Panels" folder and look for the Sound icon inside.
If it is there, select it by clicking on it and then select "Get Info" from the File menu to view its version number. It should be version 8.0.5.
If the version is less than 8.0.5, install the new Sound Control Panel from the CD-ROM by dragging it to the System Folder icon on your hard disk.
Creating an Alias
To create a short cut to the Best Math Program Ever icon in the Best Math Program Ever folder on your hard drive, you can create an alias to that file.
1. find the Best Math Program Ever icon in the Best Math Program Ever folder and click on it once.
2. from the file menu on your desktop, select ╥Make Alias╙
3. a new icon will appear with the name ╥Best Math Program Ever Alias╙
4. drag this icon to your desktop
Any time you want to play Best Math Program Ever, simply put the CD-ROM in your CD -ROM drive and double click on the Best Math Program Ever alias icon on your desktop.
Saving
Each time your child plays with Best Math Program Ever, he or she needs to sign-in using the same name or initial. Younger children might find it easier to use the first initial of their names. Older children might want to use their full names. In either case, the program saves the game session with the name entered at the start. When children return to the game, they must use the same name to revisit a previously saved game. More than one child can enjoy this program. To do so, be sure each child uses a unique name to save his or her game.
Quitting
In order to have the program properly save information, you must quit the program by clicking the exit button in the Mathmobile. Quitting using any other method may cause an error. If you quit by any other method it is best to restart your computer.
Troubleshooting
If you are having any problems running Best Math Program Ever, please try the troubleshooting tips below:
The game takes more than 4 minutes to load! What is wrong?
Best Math Program Ever is incompatible with SAM and other virus protection software. Please make sure that SAM and any other virus protection software is disabled, and restart your computer.
Virtual Memory
Virtual memory must be OFF to run Best Math Program Ever. After turning it off in the Memory control panel, you must restart your machine.
Virus Protection Programs
Best Math Program Ever is incompatible with the virus protection programs SAM Intercept. SAM Intercept must be turned OFF to run Best Math Program Ever. After turning it off in the Extensions control panel, you must restart your machine.
Memory Problems
If the system prompts you for more memory when starting up Best Math Program Ever, first make sure you have quit all other applications. If there are no applications running and you still do not have enough memory, temporarily move all unnecessary extensions (QuickTime, Sound Manager and CD-ROM extensions must remain) from the Extensions folder (found in the System Folder) and place them in a temporary folder. Upon restart, your computer will have more free memory. Closing all windows in the Finder will also free some memory.
Monitor Settings
Best Math Program Ever requires a 256 color monitor to run. If your monitor supports more than 256 colors, it will automatically be set to run with 256 colors. If you have more than one monitor, please manually set all of your monitors to 256 colors before running Best Math Program Ever.
When you quit the program your monitor will automatically revert to your previous settings.
Improving Performance
Best Math Program Ever is designed to take advantage of the latest in CD-ROM technology; however, certain system configurations are known to degrade CD-ROM performance.
Here are some tips that can increase the performance of all your CD-ROM titles:
╖ File Sharing may greatly impact your machine's performance. Turning this option OFF using the Sharing Setup control panel will assure optimal performance.
╖ Quit all programs prior to running Best Math Program Ever. Programs running at the same time will compete for system resources and may impact performance.
╖ Turn off Appletalk. This can be found in the chooser.
╖ Upgrade the driver for your CD-ROM drive. If you are using a non-Apple CD-ROM drive, determine what driver it uses and contact their technical support department to obtain an updated version of their driver. If you are using an Apple made CD-ROM drive, upgrade to version 5.1.2 or later, this driver should be available from any authorized Apple dealer at no cost.
